Life Changes Trust

Life Changes Trust was established by the Big Lottery Fund in April 2013 with a ten-year endowment to support transformational improvements in the quality of life, well-being, empowerment, and inclusion of young people with experience of being in care.

The Trust was committed to working with care experienced young people, practitioners in all sectors, other funders and government in Scotland so that when young people leave care, they have positive opportunities and outcomes just like other young people.

Life Changes Trust (LCT) closed its doors in 2022, with legacy projects continuing the work for a further 3-5 years.

Continuing the legacy

Staf were given the opportunity to lead on the development of a new online channel, that would host learning resources from Life Changes Trust and its partner organisations.  Staf worked with a Steering Group of care-experienced people and LCT partners to achieve this.

In November 2022, Staf commenced work with the Scottish Tech Army who carried out user and market research for the channel.  The STA research was complete in June 2023 and findings from their report helped the Steering Group to identify any gaps and areas to be further considered.

The Steering Group LCT partners, Staf, National Leadership Network, Mhor Collective, YMCA, Moniack Mhor and East Dunbartonshire Council House Project, have met monthly since early 2023, to discuss and plan the new channel’s development.  The work included sifting through a large amount of LCT resources, to identify what could be showcased on the new website.

The Life Changes Trust Resource Hub

In the Summer of 2023, Staf commenced discussions with Third Sector Lab (TSL) and we were delighted to announce that TSL would be the website developers for the new channel. TSL have since met regularly with the Steering Group to discuss the channel’s purpose, users’ needs, branding and prototype for the website.

In March 2024, the new channel was developed! The LCT Resource Hub will offer anyone, who is interested in improving the lives of young people with care experience, the opportunity to benefit and learn from the investment of the Life Changes Trust programme, including those with lived experience. The Hub will ensure that the knowledge and evidence gained throughout the Trust’s lifetime is not only preserved, but is actively explored, examined, utilised and built upon.
